Conditional Sentence (শর্ত) or If (যদি`)

 (শর্ত)

Conditional মানে ''শর্ত'' এবং Conditional মানে হচ্ছে 'শর্তধীন' ।অর্থাৎ conditional sentence বা শর্তাধীন বাক্য হচ্ছে এমন এক প্রকার বাক্য যা কোন fact বা ঘটানাকে শর্তসাপেক্ষে তুলে ধরা ।

মূলত  Conditional বাক্যসমূহ  একটি ঘটনাকে দুইভাগে তুলে ধরে-

          প্রথমতঃ     বাস্তব ঘটনা (real or quite possible facts)

          দ্বিতীয়ত ঃ  অবাস্তব ঘটনা (not real or quite impossible facts )

সচরাচর conditional sentence সমূহ if দ্বারা শুরু হয় কিন্তু তা বাক্যের মাঝেও বসতে পারে। যেমন-  

·        If you heat ice, it melts.

·        Eat something if you are hungry.

·        If you invite me, i will go there.

·        If i were you, i would help the poor.

·        If you told the matter, i would have gone the to the man.

Conditional sentence চার প্রকার যা  zero, first, second ও third condition হিসাবে পরিচিত। 

Zero Condition : এ ধরনের বাক্য বাস্থব ঘটনা সম্পর্কিত এবং তা একটি বৈজ্ঞানিক অবস্থা ও ফলাফল প্রকাশ করে। 

   gyj structure: If + kZ© cÖKvk K‡i Ggb evK¨vsk, + dj cÖKvk K‡i Ggb evK¨vsk.

  Structure: If+ subject+present form+object, subject+ verb in base form + object

• If you heat ice, it melts.
• If you are stand in the rain, you get wet.

  First Condition : এ ধরনের বাক্য বাস্তব ঘটনা সম্পর্কিত এবং তা সম্ভাব্য একটি অবস্থা অ ফলাফল প্রকাশ করে।

    Structure :   if + subject + verb (present form)……, subject + will/ may/ can + verb ( present form ) …….

         Example:

•  If it rains, I shall stay indoor.
• hw` e„wó nq, Avwg N‡iB _vK‡ev|
• If you want, he will help you.
• You will learn more if you read more.
• If they play in the rain, they will catch cold.

Second Condition : এ ধরনের বাক্য বাস্তব ঘটনা সম্পর্কিত নয়। বাক্যগুলো এমন অবস্থা সম্পর্কিত যা বর্তমান ও ভবিষ্যত বাস্তবতার সঙ্গে বৈপরীত্য তুলে ধরে।

   Structure2: if + subject + verb ( past form ) …. , subject + might/                would/ could + verb (present form) ………..

 Example: 

• If you studied hard, you would not fail in the examination.
• Sumaya might help if Eva wanted.
• Bfv hw` PvB‡Zv mygvBqv nq‡Zv mvnvh¨ Ki‡Zv|

Note: past indefinite tense Gi conditional clause G “be” verb wU mKj  subject  Gi c‡iB “ were” nq .

       Þ If I were a rich man, I could help the poor.

       Þ Avwg hw` abx nZvg, Mixe‡`i‡K mvnvh¨ KiZvg|

Note: Verb wn‡m‡e e¨eüZ  ''were” Ges   “had”, subject  Gi c~‡e© em‡j ‘if ’ QvovB conditional clause ( past indefinite )Gi A_© cÖKvk K‡i. †m‡¶‡Î, cieZx©  clause wUi structure GKB _v‡K.

      Þ Were I a rich man, I could help the poor.

      Þ Had I a lot of money, I would establish a school.

      Þ Avgvi hw` cÖPzi UvKv _vK‡Zv, Avwg GKwU ¯‹zj cÖwZôv Ki‡Z cviZg|

Third Condition: আমরা যখন অতীতে ঘটেনি এমন বিষয় এবং বিষয়টি ভিন্ন হলে কী ঘটতো এমন কল্পনা করি সে ক্ষেত্রে Third Conditional sentence ব্যবহার করি।   

  Structure: if + subject + had + verb (past participle form) ….., subject + might/ could/ would + have + verb( p. participle form)…..                     
                                   Or

      If যুক্ত ১ম sentence past perfect tense হলে পরের sentence টি subject+ would/could/might +have + verb এর Past participle + বাকি অংশ বসবে ।

       Example:

 Þ  If you had started earlier, you would not have missed the train.

 Þ hw` Zzwg Av‡iv Av‡M ïi“ Ki‡Z, Zzwg nq‡Zv †UªbwU wgm Ki‡Z bv|

 Þ  If Nusrat had tried again, she might have succeeded.

 Þ  I could have told him about you if I had found him.

NOTE:   G‡¶‡Î auxiliary verb wn‡m‡e e¨eüZ had ‡K subject Gi c~‡e© emv‡j  if ছাড়া conditional clause ( past perfect) Gi A_© cÖKvk K‡i. d‡j cieZx©  clause wU GKB structure AYymiY K‡i.

  Þ Had she tried again, she might have succeeded.

  Þ c~bivq †Póv Ki‡j, †m nq‡Zv mdj n‡Zv|

  Þ  Had I been a rich man, I would have helped the poor villagers.
