Adjective বা বিশেষণ কাকে বলে?

An adjective is one of the eight parts of speech. Adjectives are words that describes and modify noun and pronoun.

নিচের বাক্যগুলো লক্ষ কর-

v Chittagong is a big city.

v Rupsi is a good girl.

v Mustak is the little boy.

উপরের বাক্যগুলোতে big, good, little- এই শব্দগুলো Adjective, কারণ এই গুলো কোন কিছুর (Noun এর) দোষ, গুন, অবস্থা, সংখ্যা বর্ণনা করেছে অর্থাৎ big, good, little এই Adjective গুলো যথাক্রমে city, girl, boy- এই noun- গুলো কেমন তা আমাদেরকে বলে দিচ্ছে।

সুতারাং দেখা যাচ্ছে, adjective কোনো Noun বা Pronoun সম্বন্ধে অতিরিক্ত অথ্য প্রধান করে। Adjective সাধারণ বিষ্যে আমাদেরকে তথ্য দেয় সেগুলো নিম্নরুপ-

Quality (গুণাগুণ)	A smart boy, a good morning.
Size(আয়তন)	A short boy, a small boy, a big tree.
Age (বয়স)	An old man, a young man.
Temperature (তাপমাত্র)	A hot day, a cool evening.
Shape (আকৃতি)	A square room, a round chair.
Colour (রং)	White eye, black watch, gray hair.
Origin (উৎস)	A Chinese phone, A Japanese watch.

 

What is Adjective?

          যে শব্দ noun বা pronoun-এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা, সংখ্যা, পরিমাণ ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করে তাকে Adjective বলে। Adjective- এর পূর্বে Adverb of degree (intensifier) হিসেবে too/very ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমন-

·      He is a wise man.

·      Rahim is dull.

Adjective-এর Comparative ও Superlative degree আছে। এরা বাক্য number বা gender বা  case দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয় না, কারণ এরা যে noun বা pronoun কে modify করে তাদের দ্বারা নিয়ন্ত্রিত হয় না।

Adjective চেনার উপায়

Word-এর মূল অংশকে root বলে। Root/word-এর শেষে কতিপয় Suffix বা able/ ible/ al/ am/ ian/ ary/ ory/ atic/ tic/ ative/ en/ ern/ ery/ ese/ ful/ ial/ ic/ icl/ ish/ ive/ less/ ly/ ous/ some /t(ant/ent)/ tial/ worthy/y যুক্ত হয়ে Adjective গঠন করে। Suffix- গুলো নিম্নরূপ-
