Demonstrative Pronoun ( নির্দেশক সর্বনাম)

What is a Demonstrative Pronoun?

যে Pronoun এক বা একাধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে, তাকে Demonstrative Pronoun বলে। ( The words 'This' that, these, those, such, so, the same, one, ' when used alone, are Demonstrative Pronoun)

Demonstrative pronoun গুলো হলো: This, that, those, such, so, etc.

যেমন -- 

• This is my book.
• These are new books.
• That is my pen.
• Those are my pens.

Use of 'This' and 'That' as pronoun ( Pronoun হিসেবে this এবং that এর ব্যবহার) 

(a)  This নিকটের কোন একজন ব্যক্তি বা একটি বস্তুকে এবং These নিকটের একাধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বোঝায়। যেমন -- 

      This is my pen.

      These are my pens.

(b) That দূরের ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বুঝায় এবং Those দূরের একাধিক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে বুঝায়। যেমন -- 

      This is my pen and that is yours.

      These are my pens and those are hers.

(c) কোন কোন সময় জোর দেওয়ার জন্য this এবং that ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন -- 

      He must do the work and this at once.

     এখানে উল্লেখ্য যে, Demonstrative Pronoun গুলোর অনেকেই আবার Adjective রূপে হতে পারে। তখন এদেরকে Demonstrative Adjective বলে। যেমন -- 

Demonstrative	Demonstrative    Adjective
That is a fair girl	That girl is fair
This is a girl	I like this girl.
